[NRVR-Members] LETS LAUNCH SOME ROCKETS!! (Members and Students only)

Hey all..

We're getting some questions about who can and can not attend the launch with it being a non-public event. In short.. this is a VT sanctioned and monitored, "flyers only", restricted access launch. So no, you can't "invite" other people or groups.. you can't have your roommate who drove you hang out, or even have your wife and stay on site.

To be blunt, since the students return there has been a uptick in COVID infections, and being a VT student launch, it's likely that 10-20% of the attending student attendees WILL likely be COVID positive (given the latest test statistics<https://ready.vt.edu/dashboard.html>). So we can't mess around or let our guard down here.

For example, my wife is out of town and I will be watching the kids for the weekend, so while I would normally bring my kids and have them hang out with me all day.. for this event, I'm dropping my kids at my parent's house.

Does that help clarify?

Hey everyone..

Launch Details:

As always, all details on the launch event are listed on the calendar:

http://nrvr.org/calendar/<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fnrvr.org%2Fcalendar%2F&data=02%7C01%7Ct.weeks%40vt.edu%7C1547023aabeb4c31d38d08d85b5e9c50%7C6095688410ad40fa863d4f32c1e3a37a%7C0%7C0%7C637359810120990587&sdata=vBt5BxaHiYwcyy2TfjLNEe7naMcHFQoL%2B%2F2FMvLH%2B9Q%3D&reserved=0>

Special Launch Requirements:

I'll try to keep it brief... We have approval for a private (non-public), NRVR members + Students only, TRA Reserch Launch.

Just to be clear, due to COVID-19, this launch:

  * is NOT an open to the public launch (no scouts troops, schools, outreach groups, etc)
  * is intended for University Students and NRVR Club Members only
  * social distancing, masks & hand hygiene, will be enforced (PPE provided)

Student Cert and HP Flights:

Students, your rocket should be completely assembled (minus the HP motor) 24hrs before the launch (so that all epoxy is fully cured).

No rocket needing any on-field, major component construction or repairs will be approved to fly (no fin attachments/epoxing, shock cord mount repairs, motor retention, non-removable rail/lug mounts, load/stress bearing component work, etc). All such construction should be accomplished at least 24hrs before the launch.

The listed flyer should have been responsible for the rocket construction (no stand ins), especially for cert flights (certs are for individuals only).

Flyers attempting a certification flight are not to posses high power motors they are not already certified to handle. To be clear, an uncertified flyer may not bring, handle, load their own H or I motor without certified flier, mentor or RSO oversight.[1]

Complex, Research, or "Weird" Rockets Require Pre-Flight Review/Approval

If you're flying

  * over 5,000ft (hard ceiling is 8k), or
  *   flying a complex/staged flight,
  *   a research flight,
  * or flying a "weird" rocket (a non-traditional rocket, recovery, critical 3D printed parts, etc)

if your rocket/flight match any of these, please file a Pre-Flight data Capture Form<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fserver2.nrvr.org%2Ffiles%2FNRVR_Pre-Flight_Data_Capture_Form_2020.pdf&data=02%7C01%7Ct.weeks%40vt.edu%7C1547023aabeb4c31d38d08d85b5e9c50%7C6095688410ad40fa863d4f32c1e3a37a%7C0%7C0%7C637359810121000580&sdata=ODhFPVDxAa35Y09OW2bYx1ToLngpkMk4Xg4cvjTv8Qg%3D&reserved=0> and get them to the club officers BEFORE the day of the launch. Sim your flight and get the form to officers at nrvr.org<mailto:officers at nrvr.org> ASAP.

The RSO has final go/no go authority for all flights at TRA launches.

Any questions?

What are YOU going to fly?
